About Approachly

“I was tired of letting dating apps decide whether I had a dating life.”

Where it started

After college, I moved to a new city where I didn't know anyone. As a guy in my 20s, I wanted to be dating, so I hopped on the dating apps. The early promise of abundance soon became an experience that felt impersonal and nothing like real-life dating. I grew sick of it and recommitted to meeting women in the real world.

The problem

Women don't usually approach guys out of nowhere. The guy has to do the approaching. After two months off the apps, with no dates, I realized this and decided I'd speak to at least one woman every day: the coffee shop, the gym, the sidewalk, anywhere. The goal wasn't the outcome. The goal was overcoming my own self-talk to start the conversation and meet new people.

The next stage

As I started this challenge of approaching a woman daily, a funny thing happened. Each approach got easier. My mind went from making excuses to avoid an opportunity to finding reasons to create one. It was a complete 180 from how shy I used to be.

As a result, my dating life flourished, all because I got out there and took action in the world instead of waiting for the apps to deliver a match.

Why I built Approachly

After that transformation, I noticed I wasn't the only one with this problem. I saw the same pattern in friends and peers: frustrated, stuck on the apps, and beginning to lose hope. That's when I realized more men can make this same change, because confidence is built in reps. Nobody feels ready for the first conversation. The tenth feels different because nine happened.

I started with the Approachly app, a way to help men build the habit of approaching women in the real world. To pair with it, I wrote the playbook: everything I learned about meeting women offline, from grooming and presence to the different types of openers and much more. Since then, I've helped hundreds of men take back control of their dating lives from the apps.

We're just getting started. I truly believe dating should happen in person, not through a screen, and I'm excited to keep helping men reclaim their dating lives.

The approach

Dating confidence is built in three kinds of reps.

Social

Walk over and say hello.

Open simply, lead the conversation, and make a clear invitation while the moment is alive.

Mind

Act before you feel ready.

Measure yourself by the action, not her answer. Debrief fast, adjust one thing, and go again.

Body

Show up like you expect to be seen.

Grooming, posture, and voice. Your approach starts before you say a word.

10,000 reps

Confidence is evidence. Every rep is a vote for who you are becoming.

Nobody feels ready for rep 1. Rep 20 feels different because 19 reps happened. Rep 10,000 is who you are.
